STATEMENT BY THE NCSS FACULTY
The faculty of the Nature-Culture-Sustainability Studies MA program expresses our full and unequivocal support for the RISD custodians, groundskeepers, and movers who are currently on strike for a living wage. We join our colleagues, students, fellow departments, and staff at RISD in standing in full solidarity with the workers, who are an indispensable part of our community.
RISD is an institution that prides itself on its commitment to sustainability, environmental justice, and social equity and inclusion, but that commitment rings hollow when its most essential employees are not paid a living wage. We urge the RISD administration to come to an agreement with Teamsters 251 swiftly and in good faith, so that this strike can end positively with an outcome that treats all members of our community with the respect and dignity that they deserve.
